Born and raised in Kenya and a naturalized Canadian. Author-illustrator-animator with an addiction to the dark-wholesome and the bittersweet. I hermitted to Asia so I could write all the stories I wanted to write, and there's loads.
Stuff I almost won
BIG LIZARD, HIDDEN SPIDER
An aging spider plans live out its last winter in a young woman's closet, but the familiar, seedy life starts to knock.
My very first e-book, a partly illustrated and weird little novella, 2014. I never marketed it, but the Finalist award gave me the taste for blood.
JUST ASK NICELY
A stranded father and son find an elevator in the desert that leads to a strange room, where they get to ask the really deep questions.
Another weird tale with a cat in it, this time for a hackathon by Owl Canyon Press in Colorado. They had 900 entries to choose from and it was my first published work in an anthology. I couldn't believe it!
THE SMUDGE
New money beats old money in a party game of hypnosis, but Amos Winch won more than a pink slip when a memory he'd long buried returned, somehow alive and in the flesh.
My first foray into horror. I got the idea from an interesting smudge on a wall in Croatia. Submitted this to a CRAFT literary magazine contest and got an honorable mention for it.
The Big Stories
NOVELS IN PROGRESS
The beginnings and ends of human worlds fascinate me enough that I've written about them five times in the shape of fantasy, history, psych horror, now and then dark humor. Boy, would it be neat if one of these should see the light of day before our human world ends.
GOMA
True events with a dark fantasy twist. Workers on the Uganda railway fend off malicious lions as behind the scenes, monsters vie for dominance. The first book of a series set in 1898-1899 East Africa.
I think I got lucky with this one! Stay tuned.
UNWORTHY
Psych horror about a maladaptive daydreamer with a nightmare that's seeping into his waking life. Based on the Akkadian origin tale, the Enuma Elish.
DUKA AND THE MOON CHILD
300 years in the future, war-weary Europe's mysteriously back to medieval times and Duka al Cairi and his robot find good market for their modern wares. Then they find out why. Episodic humor + sci-fi.
THE ENTROPY SEED
&
THE STONE EGG
Unbeknownst to all, the Four Horsemen have arrived, but they're children and someone's trying to kill them. A second-world fantasy that takes world myths and pits them against corporate greed. I'm itching to heavily rewrite these two.
